Hey guys. How do the sayings go? “A happy wife makes a happy life”, and uh, “if momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”. Well, if you want the women in your life to be happy, so you can be happy too, all you have to do is take good care of them. A little appreciation can go a loooong way. Remember the special events in their lives and commemorate them, take them out to dinner once in a while, and make sure that they can be comfortable in their own home. There is nothing wrong with snuggling when it’s a little chilly, but you know that most ladies definitely don’t like being cold.

Annual HVAC maintenance is essential to improving efficiency and prolonging the life of your system. There are certain fundamental service tasks your cooling technician should do on a service call in the spring:

Check the evaporator and condenser coils.

Test the refrigerant levels and ensure there are no leaks.

Inspect the blower and test its airflow.

Make sure that the thermostat operates correctly.

Inspect all of the moving parts in the system, lubricating as necessary to help avoid wear and tear caused by friction.

Check the condensate drain, ensuring that condensation can properly exit the system, and checking for clogs throughout the drain.

Test the system controls, making sure that the heat is locked out when in cooling mode, and vice versa, and ensuring that the A/C equipment cycles on and off correctly.

A simple task that homeowners should do to ensure peak performance from their air conditioners is to make sure to change the air filter regularly. When you run your A/C frequently, check it once a month and change it when it looks dirty.

All of these maintenance tasks will keep your system in good working order, but you can benefit even further by participating in a Shumate service agreement.

With the summer temperatures reaching over 90 for many days, here are some tips that can help you save money on your cooling costs.

Raise Your Thermostat. If you have central air, start by automatically setting your thermostat to a higher temperature, say 78 or 80 degrees, during times when you’re not at home. A programmable thermostat could save you as much as $180 a year, according to Energy Star.

Utilize Ceiling Fans. While you’re at home, put your ceiling fans to work — even with your air conditioner running. Ceiling fans can create a cooling effect that leaves you dry and comfortable, enough so you can raise the temperature on your air conditioner. A 2-degree increase can lower cooling costs by up to 14%, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Skip the Stove. You stove is another giant source of heat. Consider warming up small-sized portions in the microwave. You could save as much as 80 percent in cooking energy, according to Energy Star. Grilling outdoors is another alternative for cooking, not only because it conserves energy — it also keeps the heat outside!
